SkyWater and D-Wave confirm their chip partnership will continue under a multi-year deal, but neither gives a price

D-Wave (QBTS) IonQ

The Oct. 13 announcement extends a relationship that has lasted more than 10 years. SkyWater's Minnesota facility will continue developing manufacturing processes and making superconducting chips for D-Wave, including its Advantage2 processors. The agreement includes protections for D-Wave's intellectual property. SkyWater also identifies D-Wave as an existing customer of its Quantum Solutions business. In a separate technology test, D-Wave's quantum annealing technology reduced delays in SkyWater's manufacturing process by up to 30%. Neither company disclosed the deal's value or exact length.

D-Wave has secured continued access to SkyWater's chip manufacturing despite IonQ's ownership of the supplier. This helps D-Wave maintain production and development of its Advantage2 processors without an immediate need to find a new manufacturing partner.

The main question about whether the partnership continues is now answered. What remains unknown is the contract value, exact duration, and details of the intellectual property protections. D-Wave now relies on a supplier owned by a competitor, and it specifically highlighted protections for its technology.
