IonQ opens its Cambridge research centre, marking its fourth announced Superion 256 placement in four weeks
IonQ opened its Quantum Innovation Centre at Cambridge's Cavendish Laboratory on Oct. 15, with nine research projects announced at launch. The company plans to install a Superion 256 quantum computer and a network for sharing quantum connections between two data centres and three network points. Innovate UK will support access through the National Quantum Computing Centre over three years. No contract value or installation date was announced.
Including SDT, Florida International University, and NVIDIA, IonQ has now named four locations or partners for Superion 256 systems. So far, the announced installation timelines are late 2027 for FIU and 2027 for NVIDIA.
None of the four announcements includes a price. Cambridge's announcement focuses on research projects and a system that IonQ says it will install in the future. A placement becomes more meaningful when the company provides a contract value or a confirmed delivery date.
