Xanadu Releases Roadmap With An Obstacle
Xanadu released an updated roadmap targeting fault-tolerant computing by 2028 or 2029, a quantum data center by 2029 or 2030, and more than 1,000 logical qubits by 2031. The main obstacle is photon loss, currently 24 times higher than the level needed for the company's error-correction method to work. Xanadu aims to reduce that to the needed level by 2030. The company also said its software platform, PennyLane, is used by nearly one third of surveyed quantum developers and has been downloaded about 1.1 million times.
Naming a specific, measurable obstacle with a clear deadline is more rigorous than most roadmaps in the industry.
A precise figure like this is easy to check later. The real test is whether Xanadu keeps reporting that number at future earnings calls, or whether it quietly disappears if progress stalls.
