Canada Commits CAD $195 Million to Xanadu's Toronto Photonics Plant

General Industry Xanadu

Canada agreed to give Xanadu CAD $195 million (about $140.2 million USD), its largest quantum manufacturing investment on record. The money is the federal share of an CAD $893 million ($642.2 million USD) project to build a photonics factory in Toronto called "Inception." The plant will span 158,000 square feet and create 275 jobs.

This is Xanadu's third major manufacturing announcement in two weeks, and by far the largest. It is real, government-backed capital aimed at the same manufacturing bottleneck other companies in this space are facing.

Government funding covers about 22 percent of the total project cost. Xanadu and its private partners still need to raise the remaining 78 percent, a notable gap given the company's $42.1 million net loss last quarter and its reliance on selling additional stock to raise cash.
