Diraq Will Put an 8-Qubit Computer Inside a Live Equinix Data Center

Diraq will install an eight-qubit silicon quantum computer inside a live, operational Equinix data center in Sydney by October 2026. The full system, including cooling and control electronics, fits in a standard server rack and uses under 20 kilowatts of power.

Equinix is a large, publicly traded company. Testing whether quantum hardware can operate inside a shared commercial facility, rather than a dedicated lab, is a genuinely different kind of test.

Eight qubits is not enough for useful computing on its own. The purpose of this test is infrastructure: power, cooling, and networking. It is worth revisiting once real performance data from the deployment becomes available.
