Infleqtion partners with Cisco to build the plumbing for connecting quantum computers together
Infleqtion and Cisco announced joint R&D to link individual quantum devices into distributed networks, pairing Infleqtion's neutral-atom hardware and sensors with Cisco's networking stack, including Cisco's new Universal Quantum Switch, a working research prototype for routing quantum information between systems. Three research areas: sensor-compute convergence, quantum memory optical conversion, and network-aware software.
Cisco is a networking incumbent putting its own hardware (the Universal Quantum Switch) behind the idea that quantum computing's next leap is networking machines together rather than building bigger single machines. That's the same thesis Xanadu, IonQ, and several smaller networking startups in this feed are betting on, just with a much larger company's engineering behind it now.
This is exploratory joint R&D, no product, no dollar figure, no timeline. Both companies are literally still figuring out the research questions, per their own list. Worth checking back after Cisco's Quantum Summit in October for anything more concrete than the press release language.
