NASA Doubles Its Bet on Infleqtion's Space-Based Gravity Sensor
NASA and JPL awarded Infleqtion a $20 million follow-on contract for its space-based gravity sensor, bringing NASA's total investment to $40 million. Infleqtion builds the atomic components of the sensor using ultracold rubidium atoms. The next phase includes testing at a drop-tower facility in Germany. Hardware development continues through 2027, with a flight test planned for 2030.
Doubling the size of the contract is a genuine sign that the program is advancing, not stalling.
A 2030 date is far off, but it is specific enough to check later. This remains a test instrument meant to reduce risk for future systems, not a finished product.
