Rigetti (Nasdaq: RGTI) is establishing a dedicated Systems Delivery organization and created a new Chief Operating Officer role, appointing current CTO David Rivas to it, overseeing fabrication, systems delivery, software, business development, government programs, supply chain, and facilities. Andrew Bestwick, previously SVP of Quantum Systems, was promoted to the now-vacant CTO role, focused specifically on processor architecture and chip development, including Rigetti's published target of 99.5% median two-qubit gate fidelity on its Cepheus-1-108Q system. The company cited rising demand for on-premises system deployments, ranging from its 9-qubit Novera to its 108-qubit Cepheus-class systems, as the reason for the reorganization.

Splitting "build the chip" from "deliver and support the system" into two separate C-suite functions is a structural bet that Rigetti's growth bottleneck is shifting from R&D to operations and customer delivery, the same kind of manufacturing-focused organizational move Quantinuum made with its Quanta Computer partnership.

Citing "increased demand" as the reason for a reorg is a claim worth checking against actual unit or contract disclosures going forward, this reorganization itself proves nothing about demand on its own. Worth watching whether Rigetti's next earnings call quantifies the deployment volume that supposedly justified this restructuring.
