IonQ's biggest week of the year: raised guidance, new QPU, Shor's algorithm blueprint, all on Investor Day

IonQ

IonQ raised full-year 2026 revenue guidance to $450-460 million, up from prior guidance, driven by five months of SkyWater Technology revenue now consolidated onto IonQ's books following the July 31 acquisition close. Same day, IonQ launched Superion 256, its sixth-generation QPU platform, the first IonQ chips actually fabricated at SkyWater rather than a third party. Orders open now, customer deliveries in 2027. IonQ also published a full resource estimate for running Shor's algorithm against 256-bit elliptic curve cryptography on a fault-tolerant trapped-ion system, the actual math behind "when does a quantum computer break Bitcoin." Stock rose 5.8-5.9% on the news.

This is the first combined guidance IonQ has issued since closing SkyWater, meaning it's the first real look at what the acquisition actually adds to the top line, not the pro forma numbers from January's announcement. A house-fabricated chip is also a different claim than "we bought a foundry." It's the first physical proof the foundry produces IonQ's own product.

$450-460 million in "revenue" now includes SkyWater's existing semiconductor foundry business, which makes chips for customers that have nothing to do with quantum computing. Separate the two lines before crediting IonQ's quantum platform with growth it didn't generate. The Shor's algorithm paper is a resource estimate, not a demonstration. Nobody ran this. It says what a future machine would need to do it.
