Canada, the US, UK, Germany, And The Nordics Launch A Joint $40M+ Quantum Research Fund, With NordForsk Covering The Nordic Side

NordForsk joined a G7-Nordic quantum technology research call led by Canada's NSERC, alongside Germany's DFG, Japan's JST, the UK's UKRI-EPSRC, and the US NSF, with participating national funders committing over $40 million CAD total. The call will fund Nordic participation in up to 12 international collaborative projects spanning quantum computing, communications, sensing, materials, and post-quantum cryptography; Nordic teams can request up to NOK 7 million (roughly $650,000) per project over three years. Proposals require a Canadian lead researcher plus partners from at least two Nordic countries, with applications due September 24, 2026.

This formalizes the "Kananaskis Common Vision for the Future of Quantum Technologies" agreed at the G7 into an actual funding mechanism, six national research agencies coordinating one call is a real, if slow-moving, signal that basic quantum research funding is becoming an explicit multilateral priority rather than purely a national one.

This is government-to-government academic research funding, not investable. No company is named, no commercial application is required, and per-project amounts (roughly $650K from the Nordic side) are small relative to any serious hardware program on this feed. Useful only as a signal of where public basic-research money is flowing internationally, not as a story with a stock or a startup attached.
